BLUE LANE INTRODUCES VIRTUALSHIELD™ FOR VMWARE® INFRASTRUCTURE 3

Production-Ready Security for Virtualized Data Centers

CUPERTINO, Calif. – March 15, 2007 – Blue Lane Technologies today announced the immediate availability of VirtualShield™, a software based vulnerability shield that provides instant protection for virtual machines running on the VMware® Infrastructure 3 platform. Developed in cooperation with VMware, VirtualShield protects virtual servers from attacks against known, unpatched vulnerabilities. Blue Lane is a VMware Technology Alliance Program partner.

"Blue Lane's VirtualShield has established a bold new benchmark for virtual machine security, and will be a catalyst for the rapid adoption of virtualization in production environments," said Jeanne Johnson, principal, at St. Louis-based Server Centric Consulting. "At our recent Geek Day event, the response of our customers was overwhelming."

Addressing the unique challenges of virtual infrastructure security, VirtualShield protects guest virtual machines running on VMware ESX Server hosts. VirtualShield delivers the following unique capabilities:

  • Protects virtualized servers regardless of physical location or patch-level;
  • Provides up-to-date protection with no configuration changes and no agent installation on each virtual machine;
  • Eliminates remote threats without blocking legitimate application requests or requiring server reboots; and
  • Delivers appropriate protection for specific applications without requiring any manual tuning.

"Vulnerability shields are a promising approach to mitigating the security risks of today's IT environments," said Brian Byun, vice president of global partners and solutions at VMware. "Blue Lane's VirtualShield brings the benefits of vulnerability shields to VMware environments and gives our customers another option for securing their virtual infrastructure in ways that are simpler and more effective than those available for their physical environments."

"Blue Lane is again setting a standard for server security, this time in rapidly expanding virtual infrastructures," commented Jeff Palmer, president and CEO at Blue Lane Technologies. "This product was developed based on strong customer demand."

"Thanks to this groundbreaking work we can now offer a heightened level of protection for virtualized data centers," commented Allwyn Sequeira, senior vice president, engineering and operations at Blue Lane Technologies. "Blue Lane is delivering excellent protection to the virtual environment."
